How do I stop comparing myself to others on social media?

I know I shouldn't compare myself to people on Instagram but I can't help it. Everyone seems to be traveling, getting promoted, buying houses, looking amazing. I'm 26, I rent a small apartment, and I feel like I'm falling behind. It's making me depressed. How do I stop?

First — what you're feeling is completely normal. Social media is literally engineered to make you feel inadequate. Here's how to break the cycle:

1. Unfollow ruthlessly. Go through your following list right now. If an account makes you feel bad about your life — unfollow. Even if it's a friend. You can mute them instead if you don't want drama. Curate your feed to inspire you, not depress you.

2. Remember: you're seeing their highlight reel. That person traveling? They might be $50K in credit card debt. That person getting promoted? They probably cried in their car last week. You're comparing your behind-the-scenes to everyone else's highlight reel.

3. Set a 30-minute daily limit. Use Screen Time (iPhone) or Digital Wellbeing (Android) to limit social media to 30 min/day. Seriously. The less you scroll, the less you compare.

4. Compare yourself to YOU from 6 months ago. Not to strangers on the internet. Write down 3 things you've improved since last year. You're growing — you just can't see it when you're looking sideways.
