A fridge doesn't 'make' cold; it removes heat. A compressor pumps chemical refrigerant through coils. The liquid refrigerant rapidly evaporates into a gas, absorbing thermal heat from inside the fridge. It is then pumped outside to the back coils, where it condenses back into liquid, releasing the heat.
