Should I quit my job to travel full-time?

I'm 28, single, no kids, and I have $15K in savings. I hate my 9-5 desk job and I dream of traveling the world. I could probably make it work for a year or two. But my family thinks I'm crazy. Has anyone actually done this and regretted it or was it the best decision ever?

I did exactly this at 27 with $12K in savings and I'll tell you the honest truth: it was the best and worst decision I ever made. The best part was the freedom, the growth, and the experiences I'd never trade. The worst part was the anxiety, the loneliness, and the moment when I realized I had $800 left and no plan.

Here's what I'd tell you. Don't quit until you have at least 6 months of expenses saved AND a plan for making money on the road. Freelancing, remote work, or digital nomad gigs can keep the money flowing. $15K is tight but doable for 6-8 months in Southeast Asia or Latin America.

Before you quit, try a 2-week test. Take vacation, travel somewhere cheap, and see how you handle the uncertainty. If you love it, go for it. If you're miserable without a routine, maybe not.

Your family isn't wrong to worry — they just don't understand your need for freedom. But also don't let fear of their opinions stop you from living. Just be smart about it. Have a savings buffer, keep your skills sharp, and always have a way home.
