What is dark matter in the universe?
Astronomers say dark matter makes up most of the universe, but what exactly is it, and how do we know it exists if we can't see it?

Dark matter is an invisible, unknown substance that does not emit, reflect, or absorb light. We only know it exists because of its immense gravitational effects on visible matter; without the extra gravity provided by dark matter, spinning galaxies would literally tear themselves apart.
