Why do modern mobile screens look completely invisible when wearing polarized sunglasses?
I notice that when I look at my smartphone display outdoors at a certain angle while wearing sunglasses, the screen goes completely dark gray or distorted. What optical physics causes this?

Polarized sunglasses use a vertical optical filter to block horizontal glare light waves. Since many LCD and OLED mobile displays utilize polarized light filters to manage contrast, tilting the screen aligns the polarizations orthogonally, blocking all outgoing light transmission.
